Job Summary:
CN is looking for an individual with senior managerial experience to fill the position of Director, Supply Chain Management and Optimization at our various locations throughout Canada. This includes managing and optimizing the vast CN network of resources to allow integration in rail, trucking, warehousing, and distribution and supply chain management to improve the competitiveness of clients and their businesses.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

The Director, Supply Chain Management and Optimization will be performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers:

  • Oversee the commercial activities for CN Rail's non-rail assets including: Marine operations, International Freight Forwarding, warehousing and distribution;
  • Ensure effective implementation of work processes and measurements to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of network optimization team;
  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of 18 supply chain solutions and trade managers in Canada and the US;
  • Lead and direct supply chain activities including business strategy, budgets, and operations;
  • Lead contract negotiations to ensure profitable and reliable services delivery;
  • Control and minimize costs by effectively and productively executing the operating plans while meeting legal, regulatory and corporate governance requirements;
  • Recruit and supervise additional employees as business grows.

Working Conditions:
  • Work shifts may vary and will include weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays;
  • Frequent travel throughout Canada and the US to our various locations (60% of time) for meetings, conferences and events.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Skills / Functional Knowledge:
    • Must possess the ability to apply logical and strategic thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems;
    • Comprehensive knowledge of non-rail transportation including: Marine operations, International Freight Forwarding, warehousing and distribution;
    • Leadership capabilities – building collaborative cross-functional relationships across the network, pulling together and maintaining a cohesive and high functioning team, delegation, diagnosing and solving complex problems, courage, strong political acumen;
    • Significant relationships and network to the international steamship line community.

  • Education / Certification / Experience:
  • Required
    • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, or Business;
    • Fifteen (15) or more years of experience in senior management roles within Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management;
    • Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers (NVOCC) license;
    • Bilingual English and French

  • Preferred
    • MBA;
