Job Summary:

§ Operator – Rail Flaw Detector are responsible for operating and maintaining the operation of the Rail Flaw Detector unit. To ensure the gathered of data and identifying the flaws within the rail. Report the flaws found to the appropriate personal.


· Supervise scheduling operations.

· Monitor the test data and make instrumentation corrections to ensure integrity of data and identification of Flaws.

· Identify and report the Flaws found.

· Maintain data integrity by following appropriate monitoring and maintenance schedules.

· Reduce derailment by finding internal flaws.

· Supervise the maintenance and repairs of the Rail Flaw unit.

· Supervise and train crew.

Working Conditions:

· Required to work on varying shifts to cover operations that run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

· Work shifts (day, evening or night) on weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays.

· Generally within Rail Flaw Detector car (prolonged periods of sitting), in an outdoor environment (Riding the tracks), in varying types of weather conditions.

· Work schedule is generally a five day work week with extended hours, as determined by territory needs.

· There is overnight travel, with frequent, multiple nights away from home.


Employment Requirements:

· Sound knowledge of engineering operations, and classification of rails.

· Computer skills.

· Technical & practical knowledge of electrical, electronic and computer maintenance.

· Customer focus.

· Good computer skills, especially working knowledge of Microsoft Office's (Word, Excel), Lotus Notes, and ability to obtain track authorities on Wabtec system.

· Technical & practical knowledge of electrical, electronic and computer maintenance.

· Valid Drivers License. (CDL class B with air & medical)

· USOR Rules Qualified.

· Must have minimum level 2 ASNT certification (Rail specific acceptable)

· Working knowledge of RFD trucks.


· Associates or Bachelors Degree in Electronics, Electronic or Computer Maintenance.

· 1+ years working for Class 1 RR in engineering or track capacity (Foreman).

· 1+ Prior years experience as Asst - RFD operator.
