Posting title Enterprise Information Architect
Position profile This role is responsible for understanding CN's business and translating it into an overall enterprise information architecture. This role is also responsible for defining the enterprise information architecture framework (for structured, semistructured , unstructured data types) in order to avoid redundancy, have integrated, cost-effective solutions and provide a common foundation for all system, service and infrastructure developments while balancing the need for access against security and performance requirements. This also includes the active communication and promotion of this foundation to all relevant stakeholders. This position ensures, via models, standards, technologies, and processes that information is treated as a strategic asset whereby the integration of data can deliver value and help align business priorities and technology.

Responsible to :

  • Translate strategic business requirements in order to develop enterprise information architectures
  • Understand and articulate how information aspects of the enterprise architecture contribute to the achievement of our business strategy and delivery of the expected business outcomes. Explain and evangelize information architecture value and deliverables to a wide audience spectrum (from IT support to Business executives) through simple business briefings.
  • Identify where change is required (development of a Gap plan) in the enterprise information architecture in order to keep the EIA vital, sustainable and ready to support business capabilities
  • Analyze emerging industry standards (eg XML, XBRL...etc) and trends (eg Big data, Operational technology data management, etc.) to determine impact on enterprise information architecture.
  • Contribute to the operationalization of information security policies throughtout the information architecture
  • Analyze regulatory guidelines (eg consumer privacy issues, data retention policies, outsourced data, railroad specific guidelines, ... etc ) to determine impact on enterprise information architecture.
  • Develop , deliver , maintain, communicate & govern Enterprise information standards, guidelines, frameworks and models that make up the information architecture
  • Ensure alignment of the enterprise information architecture with the enterprise business and technology architecture.
  • Ensure alignment of information domain architecture activities with the overall enterprise information strategies
  • Participate in cross-domain information activities and changes (e.g. metadata management, repository management ...etc ) consistent with enterprise objectives of information re-use and sharing.
  • Provide clear assessments and positions, connecting the dots on information mandates with broad enterprise implications.
  • Incorporate new business information and better sources of data feeds into the enterprise information architecture.
  • Facilitate consistent information acquisition, access, security, change management, archiving and recovery strategies at the enterprise level.

Typical enterprise information architecture deliverables : Information strategies and road maps, information architecture principles and guidelines, high-level representations/ business information models at a conceptual level, information architecture frameworks and patterns

Skills and Credentials:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related study (such as library science), or equivalent related project experience.
  • In-depth experience (7-10 years) understanding, designing and implementing information architectures that enable well-integrated transactional, collaborative and analytical systems.
  • Experience with various information modeling types (relational, object...) and techniques (such as data flow diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams or create/read/update/delete matrices) at the enterprise level
  • Understanding of taxonomies and ontologies, as well as the challenges of applying structured techniques (data modeling) to less structured sources.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence, data warehousing, relational database management systems and other data structures.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Strong communication skills - ability to create material for a variety of stakeholders.
  • Works well with others
