Job Summary:

CN is involved with numerous technology initiatives to improve the safety and efficiency of the railroad. The Engineering team is on the forefront of finding new technologies that can be used to improve safety, reduce incidents and increase the production, efficiency and prioritization of the work being completed by field employees. The Technology Supervisor will take a lead role in finding and implementing new technologies across all facets of the engineering group. The successful candidate will work closely with the Engineering information systems group to ensure that all new technologies are properly integrated into CN IT systems, so that Engineering can properly monitor the value and progress of each technology initiative.

Duties:

  • Research and identify new technologies that bring value to CN
  • Enhance the utilization and ability of existing technologies to maximize their benefit
  • Work with supply management to ensure proper contracts are in place for purchasing and/or leasing advanced products across the CN system
  • Assist in on-boarding with the integration and training of CN employees on the uses and information available from new products
  • Provide weekly progress reports on new equipment and technologies to monitor the benefits associated with each item
  • Work with the suppliers of equipment/technology to develop user friendly reports and easy to access information for all levels of CN Engineering
  • Attend railway research committee meetings to ensure CN is aligned with the industry on new technology projects
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies on new technologies and improvements CN is making to create a safer work place
  • Manage the successful implementation of new technologies, processes and communication of projects across the CN network
  • Assist with improvements to TIS (track inspection systems) as required
  • Make site visits to ensure projects are progressing as planned
  • Develop financial estimates, submit business cases on new projects, and monitor spending to ensure the projects stay within budget
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of the company

Working Conditions:

  • 50% field work (including air travel and driving; passport required) – traveling across North America; 50% office work
  • Overnight travel required across the CN network, with multiple nights away from home
  • Significant time doing computer work and producing reports
  • Work schedule is generally five days per week with extended hours and possible weekend work, as determined by business needs

Employment Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of track components and track structure
  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Valid Drivers License and able to obtain a passport.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of working in a team environment with the ability to work independently when required
  • 3+ years working for Class 1 RR in engineering or track capacity
  • USOR / CROR Rules Qualified
