Job Summary:

CN is seeking a qualified person to fill the position of Bridge Testing Technician within CN's H.Q. Bridge Assessment group. You will be part of a two-person team led by a Bridge Testing Engineer, responsible for carrying out non-destructive tests on CN bridges across the system, with the support of local regional forces where required.

You will be responsible for the maintenance of the mobile and stationary Bridge Testing Laboratories, the development, installation, troubleshooting, operation and maintenance of all data acquisition and test instrumentation, as well as the subsequent playback, analysis and documentation of all recorded data. You may also be required to provide office support tasks such as scanning of drawings into digital format, calculation of section properties etc…

The position requires close coordination with outside service providers, regional engineering and transportation personnel for the purpose of purchasing required services and supplies, arranging for the maintenance/licensing/movement of the mobile Bridge Testing Laboratory, and arranging for the required work trains.

Duties:

· To maintain the mobile and stationary Bridge Testing Laboratories.

· To develop, install, troubleshoot, operate and maintain all data acquisition and test instrumentation.

· To do the playback, analysis and documentation of all recorded data.

· To assist in the purchasing of required services and supplies.

· To arrange for the maintenance/licensing/movement of the mobile Bridge Testing Laboratory.

· To arrange for the work trains required for load testing of bridges.

· To provide office support such as scanning of drawings into digital format, calculation of section properties etc…

· Apply CN policies and the 5 guiding principles.

Working Conditions:

· Training on equipment and procedures specific to the job will be provided by CN.

· Some outdoors work, primarily during summer, on bridges throughout the CN network in the U.S. and Canada.

· Frequent travelling (20% of the time) away from home for up to 2 weeks.

· Working at heights and possibly in cramped positions.

· Some moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs) and climbing required.

· May be required to provide office support work.

· May be required to respond in emergency situations.

Employment Qualifications/Requirements:

· Associate's Degree in Electronics or equivalent.

· Good computer skills, including MS Excel.

· Eligible for qualification as a commercial vehicle driver (training provided by CN).

· Ability to obtain work visa for Canada (processing cost provided by CN).

· USOR & OTS certified (training provided by CN).

· Fall Protection and Rescue certified (training provided by CN).

· Candidates chosen for interview are required to write a knowledge/aptitude test.

Preferred:

  • 1-5 years experience in non-destructive testing/data acquisition field.
  • Exposure to electronic circuits troubleshooting and repair.
  • Exposure to wireless data acquisition systems.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Office.
  • Exposure to computer programming.
