North Battleford, SK

North Battleford is a small city in west central Saskatchewan. It is directly across the North Saskatchewan River from the town of Battleford. Together, the two communities are known as the Battlefords.

In 2011, the population was close to 14,000 residents.  The age average of the population is 39.  In the late 2000s, a large number of Ruthenians, a Slavic minority from Serbia (Ukraine), have immigrated to Canada, concentrating in North Battleford. Most of them came from the same town of Ruski Krstur.

Being in the centre of Canada, Saskatchewan is far removed from the moderating effects of any large body of water and therefore has a temperate continental climate. Hot to warm summers and cold winters, Saskatchewan has on average 211 days per year when the temperature drops below freezing.  Compared to other provinces, Saskatchewan is the sunniest province, has the second lowest annual snowfall, and the second hottest summer.  North Battleford shares central time with the province.
