High Level, AB

High Level is a town in northern Alberta. It is located at approximately 733 kms north of Edmonton and 725 kms south of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

 
Population
In 2011, the population was a little over 3,600 residents.  The age average of the population is 27. 
 
Climate
High Level has a subarctic climate with precipitation falling during the spring and summer, and wide temperature variations. This town lies at a low elevation for an Alberta community and the regional topography contributes to the extremes of temperature. In winter, very cold air often pools over the area. In summer, air masses originating from higher elevations warm by compression as they descend to High Level.

Education - Daycare centers, Schools and College
High Level has three public schools and one private school.
Florence MacDougall Community School goes from kindergarten through third grade.
Spirit of the North Community School opened in 2000; it houses grades 4-6.
High Level Public School goes from grade 7-12.
High Level Christian Academy goes from kindergarten through grade 9, after which students transfer to High Level Public School.
 
Health Care
The Northwest Health Centre offers acute and continuing care and services in 24-hour emergency, mental health, laboratory, public health, palliative care, community health, X-Ray, and community nutrition.
 
 
Sports and Leisure 
There are various activities for the whole family including parks, three playgrounds for different ages, a skate park and two soft and two hardball diamonds, outdoor rink, recreation programs, tennis courts, etc.
